Our time in Detroit, MI was truly a fruitful and enlightening week filled with ministry, community, and growth in gaining God’s heart for the world. We were able to experience the world in the 2.1 square miles of Hamtramck, a city within the city of Detroit, where over 30 nations are represented. With so many different cultures and religions being represented it really is like stepping into a different country.
We spent time prayer walking through the city and connecting with people from the community through evangelism. One of the most incredible things about Hamtramck is the way the community invites people in with such open arms regardless of who they are or where they’re from. It’s no wonder why God so beautifully orchestrated YWAM Detroit to plant their base in Hamtramck city limits.
It was really cool to be able to see God’s intentionality with YWAM Detroit and the way this base is so on His heart. As we spent time worshipping at the base on our first night, God made His presence known to us in a tangible way and it stayed with us throughout the rest of the week.
We had the honour of partnering with YWAM Detroit and other ministries throughout the week such as Youth Works, Sisterhood Fitness and Joy Thrift. We were able to support them through prayer and serve them practically by doing work projects like painting, cleaning, installing countertops at the YWAM Detroit base, organizing clothes for Joy Thrift and painting a mural in the children’s room of Sisterhood Fitness. It was amazing to be able to hear about how these ministries are building the Kingdom of God in the Detroit area and it was a blessing to be invited to be a small part of their journeys.
This week was full of servant leadership, exploration through Detroit, and celebrations shared together. We are so grateful for our joyous time in the beginning of our outreach phase. The Lord has been preparing our minds and hearts for us to pack up and continue being His hands and feet in Brazil! We eagerly await the things God has in store for us in the next part of our outreach.
BRAZIL 🇧🇷
After a 25 hour day of travel, we arrived in Goânia, Brazil. We have been extremely blessed by the Lord in our first week here. It’s been amazing to be able to be the hands and feet of Jesus and build relationships with the people that live here.
On our second day we went out into a part of the community where prostitution and human trafficking prominently take place. We read the entire gospel of John in this area and rediscovered the power of the Word of God. Just the mention of His name makes a way.
Later, we were called by the Lord to go out and speak to many of the women. It was a first for everyone to be sharing the love of Jesus in this type of environment and as we spoke to the women, the love God had for them weighed heavily on our hearts. It opened our eyes to see that God yearns for His lost children to come to Him and He put it on our hearts to go out and plant the seeds of life. It was an honour and a privilege to be able to tell the women that God sees them and loves them.
Each day we are able to see more and more that God has intentionally placed us here to do ministry in Goiânia. From house visits to yard maintenance to building relationship in the community, we have been able to step out in boldness and say yes to all that we are called to do. We have been growing in our confidence, relationships, and knowledge. It’s been a great week and we’re excited to see all that the Lord has in store for our team!
